-
Enter their Date Of Birth (enables us to comply with COPPA regulations)
-
Select their age range:
- 3-5 years: Very simple, highly curated content
- 6-8 years: Elementary educational content
- 9-11 years: More complex educational topics
-
12-17 years: Age-appropriate GCSE/A-Level content

Next: Set daily screen time limits
-
Click on 'Time'
-
Select child
-
Click on 'Settings'
-
You can:
✅ Choose your weekday and weekend time limits
✅Add 'buffer' settings which allow children a short amount of extra time to finish watching the current video,
✅ Award a parent 'override' to allow more viewing time,
✅ Give extra time for good behaviour, and
✅ Even allow unused time roll over to the next day.
Step 3: Add Your First Channels
This is the most important step - you're building your child's safe library.
Adding a channel: Search on YouTube (Recommended)
-
Go to YouTube.com
-
In YouTube, search for fun and educational channels of which you approve.
-
Copy the channel URL, and make sure it looks like this:
https://www.youtube.com/@DxxxxxSxxxxx -
In Tubara, open the Parent Dashboard.
-
Click "Channels", then "Submit New Channel"
-
Paste the URL into the "YouTube Channel URL or ID' window.
-
Give your new channel a category, i.e. 'Art & Creativity', 'Music' etc., from the drop down list.
-
Assign the age group - this is important if your children's ages cover a wide range. Suitable viewing for a 14 year old probably won't be suitable for a 5 year old!
-
Paste the URL and click "Submit Channel for Review"
-
Next, the channel will appear in either "Pending" or "Safety Delay".
!WARNING! the effect of "The Safety Delay" :
-
New channels will only appear to your children after a 48-hour safety delay. This protects them from newly uploaded inappropriate content, because it gives the channel a chance to take down hacked content before it can be viewed in your home.
-
It is possible to override the safety delay if you trust the channel. You can 'blacklist' a channel to make sure it can't be submitted again, or 'unblacklist' a channel, so it can be introduced into a child's viewing list at a later date.
-
Otherwise, the new channel appears in 'Pending', where you can finally approve it for viewing.
Channel Choice
Tubara will never suggest which channel (or channels) you should view, or curate lists of 'safe' channels. Tubara is intended to be a tool for parents to use, to ensure their own family values are reflected in their children's viewing.
Step 4: Let Your Child Start Watching
-
Click "Return to Home".
-
Your child can select their own profile.
-
They can now browse approved channels and watch videos, add and remove channels and videos to and from their own 'Favourites' lists, and change both their theme and avatar.
What Happens Next?
-
Your child sees only approved channels - No surprises, no wandering off into the darker corners of YouTube to stumble across content you'd rather they didn't see.
-
You get weekly analytics - See what they're watching and learning
-
Screen time automatically enforced - With a visual reminder to avoid surprises, and with the ability for the parent to allow a small length of time more, to allow the child to finish watching the end of a video they're enjoying (anti melt-down feature)
-
Content stays safe - The delay system catches problems
