Managing Channels

This is where you control what your children can watch.

The Core Concept

Tubara only shows channels YOU approve. Your children can't:

  • Search for new channels

  • Click on suggested videos

  • Fall down YouTube rabbit holes

  • 'View on YouTube'

They can ONLY watch content from channels you've added.

How to Add a Channel:

Step 2: Paste a Channel URL

We have found that this step is often best carried out on a desktop computer. Why? Because often it's difficult to find, copy and paste the URL you need on a tablet or phone screen. So - even if a tablet or phone is your child's usual medium for viewing web content, it's far easier to find, approve and add your child's preferred channels to Tubara on a desktop. If we can find out a way to automate transferring URLs to Tubara's Channel Approval process, we'll let you know!

Understanding the Safety Delay

When you add a new channel, it doesn't appear immediately. Here's why:

When you find a channel which is new to you, it's difficult to view long enough to find out whether the content is all you'd hoped for (particularly if you're a busy parent), or if the channel you've just chosen with your child has just had a 'rogue' or hacked video uploaded. This is why we built in the safety delay. While it's probably not perfect, our motto is "Safety First". Even trusted creators can get hacked. The delay protects your children from newly uploaded malicious content. [Show countdown timer screenshot]

Approving Channels Early

If you trust a channel and want to approve it straight away, you can override the safety delay: [Instructions with override warning explanation] This isn't really to be recommended, but when you're faced with a four-year old's meltdown (caused by lack of instant gratification due to the 48 hour standard delay) with an hour to go before bedtime, and the channel is familiar and trusted - we thought it might be useful.
